What if giving everything you have towards achieving something will NEVER be good enough?

What do you do?!

My wife and I were talking the other night and we began discussing this topic. Dr. Kevin Leman has a book called “When Your Best Isn’t Good Enough.”  He also wrote “Growing Up First Born” which I highly recommend. His First Born book had me laughing and crying within the first few pages. I kept saying to myself, “That’s exactly like my family!” Stay tuned for more on this in future blogs.

Throughout my life I have been the best and also the absolute WORST at things I wanted to do.

What are some best and worst moments of your life?

For example, in high school I ended up becoming the best distance runner on the cross-country and track team. However, just because I was the best in on the team didn’t make me the best high school runner in the world. I ran at races that had runners from all over who were better than me. No matter how hard I tried I was never able to beat them.

The same can be said for selecting a career path. In the career world you must focus on what you are truly the best at. So much energy is wasted on trying to excel in a career field that we are simply NOT meant to succeed in.

Is it your boss? Is it your co-workers? Is it the economy? Although these factors can play a role in our success WE are 99.9% of the problem for our failures. You must have a REAL conversation with yourself and discover if you are cut out for the field you are in. ARE YOU WASTING YOUR TIME?? Life is too short. Don’t waste it!

If you are unsure of the TYPE of field that would be best for you to reach your full potential, check out the book Strengths Finder 2.0. The book talks about improving your natural talents instead of trying to fix all the things you struggle with. It will help you discover your 5 areas of strength as a person and you can use it to align your career path with what you are truly good at. Work your strength. Hire your weakness.

The harsh reality is we simply cannot always be the person we would like to be. We can’t always achieve the goals we set out to achieve. However, if you are in a career field that REWARDS your natural talents, it is not a matter of chance for your success. It is only a matter of time.

I have failed countless times in numerous walks of life. I am happy to have found a career path that rewards my natural talents.

We all have areas of life where our best will NEVER be good enough. Focus on your strengths to find opportunities in life that allow you to not only GIVE your best, but also BE the best.

Looking forward to seeing you at your best my friends!

Enjoy your day!
